Glossary

Alkaline: Having a pH above 7.0

Alkalinizer: A product which helps to increase the pH in the body by neutralizing harmful acids.

Acid: A substance which has a pH value below 7.0.  Acids are often found in the body as by-products of metabolism.

Acidic: Having a pH below 7.0.

Base: A substance which has a pH value above 7.0.  Bases can neutralize acids.

Bicarbonate: A water-soluble salt, such as sodium bicarbonate.  It is an important buffer in the body to help neutralize acids and is also used in digestion. pH balance PASCOE contains several bicarbonates and carbonates, for example calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate.

Buffer: A substance which helps to maintain the acid-base balance, such as bicarbonate in the blood.

Connective Tissue: Prevalent throughout the body, it supports the organs and fills the space between them, and is very important for the transport and storage of molecules in the body.

Hydrogen Ions: Hydrogen ions are formed when acids are dissolved in a solution;

Hyperacidic: When acidity in the body is above what is healthy.  It can be measured by checking the pH of the urine.

MMPs: (Metallomatrix proteases) These enzymes can cause degradation of connective tissue and other tissues, resulting in inflammatory processes and associated disorders such as allergies, arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome.
